Abstract
Treatment response was assessed in 10 patients transfered to out institution after failure at primary cytoreductive surgery. At institution they underwent cytoreductive after surgery after induction chemotherapy. At our institution they underwent
cytoreductive surgery after induction chemotherapy. 12 patients who had residual tumor mass of over 2 cm in size after primary surgery and underwent second look laparotomy after chemotherapy were used as control.
@ES The following results were obtained.
@EN 1) the mean age of he 10 patients was 47 years. 6 patients had FIGO stage III disease while 4 patients had FIGO stage IV diseases. Serous cystadenocarcinoma and grade 3 was of the highest incidence. In 9 patients, the abdominal mass at
primary
surgery was over 5cm in size. 5 patients underwent tissue biopsy only at other institutes. After cytoreductive surgery after undergoing 7.9 cycles(mean) of induction chemotherapy, 8 patients had no residual tumor mass, 1 patient had a residual
tumor
mass of less than 2cm in size, and 1 patient had a residual tumor mass of 2~5cm in size, while none had a residual tumor mass of over 5cm in size. Clinically, complete response occured in 4 patients and partial response occured in 3 patients,
while
sugico-pathologically, complete response ocuured in 3 patients and partial response occured in 6 patients. The overall response rate was 90%.
2) The mean age of the 12 patients from the control group was 44.5 years. 7 patients had FIGO stage III disease and 5 patients had FIGO stage IV disease. Serous cystadenocarcinoma and grade 3 was of the highest incidence. The abdominal mass was
over 5
cm in size in all cases.
The patients underwent 8.5 cycles(mean) of chemotherapy and 7 patients underwent a second look laparotomy. Clinically, complete response occured in 6 patients and partial response occured in 2 patients, with a response of 80%.
Surgico-pathologically,
complete or partial response occured in 6 of the 7 patients that underwent a second look laparotomy.
